Why should I be part of The Push-Up Challenge?

There are lots of great reasons to get involved in this year’s Push-Up Challenge.

By participating and raising funds for headspace, you’ll allow us to pilot new and innovative programs, grow our reach and improve mental health outcomes of young Australians.

You’ll also help boost mental health knowledge, promote the importance of seeking help, reduce stigma around mental ill-health and make sure people who are experiencing mental ill-health know they are not alone.

Our participants will also reap the mental and physical health benefits of exercising.

Frequently asked questions

Can I raise funds for my local headspace centre?

Yes. You can choose to help raise vital funds for headspace to support our national mental health programs, or directly support your local headspace centre.

Is it free to join The Push-up Challenge?

Yes. There is no cost to participate in the challenge.

Who can participate in The Push-Up Challenge for mental health?

All Australians across the country can participate in the challenge.  If you are under 18, you'll be asked for your parent/guardian to approve of you taking part when registering.

How fit do I need to be to take part?

Participants of all fitness levels can join in. Being able to do 10 push-ups consecutively is a good starting point.

If you find this challenging, we suggest some preliminary training before the challenge starts. Remember, you can also opt for alternative exercises like sit-ups, squats, or customised routines.

Additionally, there are designated rest days (every Sunday) during the event to allow for recovery and prepare for the upcoming week of push-ups.

Does it have to be push-ups?

Not necessarily. We encourage participants to diversify their exercises. Consider sit-ups, squats, or another personalized workout that appeals to you.

Feel free to vary the type of push-up you choose to do as well. Whether it's standard, on your knees, against a wall, or even one-handed for a greater challenge!
