Whether you are a young person or an adult supporting a young person, our professional-led online chats, hosted by trained mental health clinicians and vocational specialists, cover a range of topics to help answer any questions you may have. 

A professional-led group chat session is your opportunity to speak online to our mental health professionals, vocational specialists, guest experts and hear from others about a specific topic. 

Anyone can view a live professional chat or transcript. To contribute to the chat, you will need to create or log into your headspace account. This requires an email address and password, and you can set up a username and profile picture if you wish. If you’d prefer to remain anonymous in the chat, you can select this option once you’ve logged in.  

Feel free to share images and videos if you think they will be helpful and relevant for the chat.

If you miss a chat or are looking for a particular topic, all our professional-led group chat transcripts are uploaded onto our website, you can access them below. Chats you’ve participated in will automatically be saved into your account so you can refer to them easily.

ADHD is a neurological issue and people who have ADHD are much more than just this label. They can be creative, compassionate, sporty, curious, energetic, smart, funny and more. But ADHD can be challenging to live with. It can make everyday situations a struggle, and often people do not understand what ADHD is like, which can be really frustrating.

Perfectionism can seem like a positive trait, as we often think it means doing well, and striving to do our best. However, for those living with the drive for perfection, it poses many challenges. It can impact our relationships with others, our mental health, and ironically, often result in us not doing as well as we could have.

Break ups are so painful! When relationships end it is natural to question the situation and yourself. You might have feelings of sadness, anger, confusion, even self-blame. Often break ups are no one’s fault. Sometimes things just don’t work out, the timing is not right, or there may be clashes of values. Whatever the reason, figuring out a way to express emotions and look after yourself is super important. How do you manage overwhelming emotion? How do you be around each other? Do you want to be friends? Do they? This change can be so hard to navigate.

Social transitioning, or social affirmation, means different things to different people. It can include things you do for yourself such as choice of clothes, though to how you engage in society though to things such as your choice of groups to hang out with. Steps in social transitioning that are important for some people, might not be as important for others, and there is no “right” or “wrong” way to socially transition.

Mental health issues can sometimes cause us to hear or see things that people around us aren’t experiencing. There are lots of different reasons why this might happen, but it can be a scary and isolating experience. If this is something you’ve been through, you’re not alone. There is support available to help things get better.

Have you ever said that you’ve felt butterflies in your stomach? Or felt like you were going to vomit just before having to do something scary? Our brains and gastrointestinal system (think stomach, intestines, bowels) are very closely linked – this is why we often feel like we experience emotions in our gut! There is now research that shows that our mental health can have a big impact on our digestion, and that the health of our gut can have a big impact on our mental health as well.

Our bodies and minds work so hard for us and are there for us, even if they are not feeling the best or we are not treating them the best! The way we talk to ourselves and others about our body has a big impact on how we feel about ourselves. In society, there is so much pressure to be a certain way and this along with our own self-talk can influence the relationship we have with our body.

Peer pressure is something we all have to deal with at some point. It can influence many areas of our lives such as how we dress, how wear our hair, the music we listen to and even the activities we get involved in. One huge pressure is to buy brands... and then to continue buying and updating when new products are released. This pressure can come from someone telling us what to buy or because we feel like this will help us fit in with our peer group.

As young people enter their teenage years and their independence grows, attending parties becomes an important social occasion many want to partake in. These events can help young people build their social skills, increase their confidence, and develop responsibility.  For family, this can be a challenging time to navigate, trying to find the balance between boundaries, trust and safety whilst also maintaining a connection with your young person.

Staying active and eating well can have a positive impact on the way young people feel about themselves and their physical and mental health. There can be many different ways to consider what this might look like for a young person and what might influence their ideas such as different media types, culture, friends and health advice. Family and friends can play a significant role in modelling healthy behaviours and influencing young people’s thoughts, feelings, language and habits around food and fitness.

We all respond to a death by suicide in the community in different ways. People can experience a variety of different emotions such as confusion, hurt, sadness and anger during this time.  If a suicide has occurred in your community, many families feel unsure about how to it support a young person as they navigate these emotions, particularly if you are also experiencing them yourself.  Talking in a curious and open way can help make sense of the variety of emotions and experiences, and give you an opportunity to provide information, support and build connection.

It is natural for young people to be curious as they begin to experience changes in their bodies, relationships with others and explore their sexuality. In an age where pornography is increasingly accessible, it is important for young people to have conversations about respectful and safe sex. Whilst these conversations may feel awkward, they are important because they offer opportunities for young people to safely explore their sexuality.

Join our eheadspace team and headspace Family & Friends National Reference Group to talk about how and when to start these conversations with young people. We will share ideas about respectful intimate relationships and discuss what to do should things not feel right.
