Staff Profile: Rachel Collins, JewishCare NSW

We are shining the spotlight this month on another consortium member.  JewishCare NSW is a not-for-profit organisation that for 80 years has been the major provider of services for vulnerable and needy people in our community. JewishCare helps across four areas: Disability, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Aged, and Children Family and Community services. JewishCare always takes a holistic and person centred approach to helping.

We asked staff member Rachel Collins a bit more about herself.

What is your role at headspace? And what do you do?

My role at headspace is helping with intake every Tuesday. I take new referrals from parents, service providers or young people themselves, either over the phone or people coming into the centre. I assess whether headspace is the best place to support the young person and book them in for an assessment with one of the youth access clinicians. If they’re not headspace appropriate, I refer them onto another service that would be more suitable.

What do you love about your job?

JewishCare or headspace? I love them both! Each organisation has given me opportunities to grow and develop my skills, through getting involved in so many projects and working with different types individuals. Both organisations give me the platform to become a better social worker. Also, the teams I work with at JewishCare and at headspace are incredible, making my working life very enjoyable!

What is one thing on your bucket list?

So hard to say just one! Let’s go with Sky Diving.

What song would you choose to sing at karaoke?

Something from the 80’s, Fleetwood Mac!
